After winning three games against the Saskatchewan SWAT last week, the Calgary Mounties returned home to host cross-town rivals Calgary Raiders under Friday night lights at Stu Peppard Arena.
Despite opening the scoring from Coltan Tagg, the Mounties would trail the Raiders 4-1 after one period of play.
In the second, the Mounties would pick up three goals but would be outscored by the Raiders who picked up eight for a 13-4 lead.
The Mounties locked in to stop the bleeding in the third period, allowing only one goal while scoring two of their own, including a shorthanded goal from Dexter Hannigan's second of the game.
The Raiders won the game 14-6 on the road and then prepared to host the Mounties on Sunday.
In the second match-up in this home and away series, the Raiders would ride out to a 4-0 lead after one period at the Max Bell Center.
The Mounties would open the second with a goal from Arley Wasson, and proceed to outscore the Raiders 6-4 in the second period, making it an 8-6 game heading into the third period.
The two teams from Calgary would exchange four goals in the third period to end the night in an 11- 7 victory for the Raiders.
The Mounties displayed depth by getting scoring from seven different players, with Owen MacCarthy (1G, 2A) and Hayden Moffat (3A) each contributing three points on the night.
“It's just a matter of dedicating ourselves to the process, One of the little things that guys are struggling with is shooting, we got to shoot more,” said Head Coach Cody Hawkins. “Conditioning, we've got to be in better condition, I think everything's clear as crystal on what we need to work on out there, the film doesn't lie.”
Player Spotlight: #2 Owen MacCarthy
Owen MacCarthy scored one goal and provided three assists over the weekend, bringing his total assists to a team-leading nine. MacCarthy is currently tied for first in team points with 15, along with Arley Wasson and Max Janousek.
