GAME RECAP: Back-to-Back Battles in Saskatchewan

The Calgary Mounties hit the road for a two-game showdown in Saskatchewan against the Swat, and the weekend did not disappoint.

Game 1 – Mounties Rally Big for 12-6 Win

In the opening game, the Swat came out flying. Haakon Steen opened the scoring, followed quickly by a goal from James Mahussier to give Saskatchewan an early 2-0 lead.

Coltan Tagg got the Mounties on the board, crashing the net finding a loose ball to make it 2-1. However, the Swat answered with two more quick goals, stretching the lead to 4-1.

But Calgary wasn’t done. The Mounties found their groove and exploded for four unanswered goals to close out the first period with a 5-4 lead.

The second period started just as hot for Calgary. Coltan Tagg notched his second of the game, and Dexter Hannigan made jaws drop with what could easily be a “Goal of the Year” candidate — a dazzling behind-the-back finish.

From there, the Mounties controlled the game, scoring three of the next four goals to seal a convincing 12-6 victory in Game 1.

Game 2 – Hannigan Dominates, Melnyk Shines in Net

After a quick rest and a well-earned pizza break, the Mounties were back in action for Game 2 at Kinsmen Arena.

The story of the game was the return of goaltender Justin Melnyk. Thrown straight into the fire after just one practice, Melnyk stood tall, stopping 43 of 49 shots and making several key 1-on-1 saves to keep Calgary in the fight.

Offensively, it was the Dexter Hannigan show. The forward was unstoppable, racking up five goals on the day and continuing to be a nightmare for the Swat defense.

Congratulations to Tyler Auger on scoring his first two Junior A goals, along with an assist, and to Storm Sheldon for netting his first Junior A goal! Well done, both of you!”

The Mounties completed the sweep and now set their sights on the rematch.
