Mounties Sweep Miners in Back-to-Back Battles- Week 6 Recap

Mounties Sweep Miners in Back-to-Back Battles

The Calgary Mounties hit the road for a back-to-back showdown in Edmonton against the Miners, following a fiery, action-packed game the previous Sunday at Stu Peppard Arena.

Game 1: Friday Night Thriller

After the intensity of last week’s clash, no one knew exactly how Game 1 would unfold—but the Miners wasted no time getting on the board, with Wyatt Robertson striking first at the 14:07 mark. The Mounties answered shortly after when Liam Vollans threaded a beautiful pass to Arley Wasson for a quick-stick finish.

Only 30 seconds later, Mason Rockley ripped a laser to the top-right corner, giving Calgary a 2–1 lead after the first.

The second period opened similarly, with the Miners tying it early thanks to Traford Couchman. But the Mounties quickly responded—Vollans and Rockley (his second of the night) found the back of the net, followed by a highlight-reel goal from Dexter Hannigan, who sliced through the defense. It was all tied 5–5 heading into the third.

The final frame was a back-and-forth battle. Calgary got goals from Coltan Tagg and Hannigan (his second), before Owen McCarthy buried the game-winner with just under six minutes to go. Goaltender Justin Melnyk was a wall, stopping 44 of 51 shots and making several clutch saves down the stretch.

Final: Mounties 8 – Miners 7

Momentum in hand, the Mounties geared up to do it all again less than 12 hours later.

Game 2: Mounties Make a Statement

Vibes were high Saturday morning, and Kayden Yeaman wasted no time, scoring just 9 seconds into the game straight off the faceoff. The Miners tied it at 14:56, but Calgary kept the pressure on with goals from Carter Cook and Coltan Tagg to take a 3–1 lead after one.

The second period was an offensive explosion. The Mounties erupted for eight unanswered goals, including:

    •    Two more from Yeaman, earning him his first hat trick of the season

    •    A second-period hat trick from Dexter Hannigan

    •    Goals from Tagg (his second of the game), Carter Linkletter, and Caiden Moon

Score after 2: Mounties 11 – Miners 2

The Miners came out swinging in the third with three quick goals, sparking flashbacks for longtime Mountie fans watching games at Bill Hunter Arena (PTSD, anyone?) But not this time, Coach Cody Hawkins called a smart timeout. The Mounties regrouped and shut the door with three more of their own from —Hannigan (again), Vollans, and Wasson—plus one final dagger from Hannigan to cap off a five-goal day .

Final: Mounties 15 – Miners 5

For the first time in four seasons, the Mounties win the season series against the Miners—and the two teams aren’t done yet.
