Week 5 Recap: 2 Wins, 1 Rivalry Battle & a Fight for a Cause
The Mounties finished Week 5 with a 2-1 record and a whole lot of action.
Game 1 – Rivalry Tilt vs. Raiders
The Mounties kicked off the week against their crosstown rivals, the Raiders Lacrosse Club . It was a rough start as the Raiders jumped out to a 9-1 lead after the first period. Despite battling back and scoring 7 more goals—2 each from Hannigan and Li, and 1 apiece from Moon, Cook, and Arley Wasson—the mounties just couldn’t find our rhythm and dropped the first game of the week 17-8.
Game 2 – Beach Bash at Stu Peppard
After a strong practice Thursday , the boys came ready for a Saturday night Beach party with the SWAT
Arley Wasson opened the scoring, followed by goals from Mason Rockley and Barrett Clarke, who buried his first career Jr. A goal!
In the second, Liam Vollans scored his first as a Mountie, and Owen MacCarthy added another to tie it 5–5 heading into the third.
The third period was all Mounties. Vollans, Rockley, and Tagg each picked up their second of the game, and MacCarthy’s second of the night stood as the game-winner in a big-time 10–8 victory.

Game 3 – Mounties Fight Cancer Sunday
Sunday was about more than lacrosse. The Mounties played in support of Gary Bunio—father of alumni Lyndon Bunio and former board member—as he bravely fights Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Proceeds from the game were split between his fundraiser and the Alberta Cancer Foundation ( stay tuned to hear how much the Mounties raised!)
The Mounties came out flying, scoring 8 goals in the first period—Zarsky (2), Pickell, Moon, Yeaman, MacCarthy, Tagg, and Arley Wasson all on the scoresheet. The pesky Miners kept it close with 6 goals of their of their own.
In the second, Goaltender Justin Melynk started to find his groove in the crease making some huge saves. Dexter Hannigan scored two early before Callum Zarsky pulled off a highlight-reel crease dive at the 7:32 mark. Chaos followed—a rare goalie vs. player scrap broke out between Tyden Redlick and Carter Linkletter that fired up the barn and lacrosse world.
The fight clip is at 4 million views and counting.
After the dust settled, the Mounties went on a 3-goal run to close out the frame up 14–7.
They outpaced the Miners 5–3 in the third to wrap up a 20–10 win.
Every offensive player got on the scoresheet with a goal in this one :
• Hat tricks from Zarsky, Moon, and Arley Wasson
• Two goals each from Hannigan and Rockley
• And Owen MacCarthy led the way with a 7-point performance
